Vietnam E-Visa Rules You Must Know (2026 Update)

First of all, travelers should be aware of the latest must know Vietnam visa rules to ensure a smooth entry. In addition, the regulations have been updated to make the online application process even faster. Furthermore, our platform is ready to help you navigate these changes easily.

Under current Vietnamese law, an E-visa cannot be extended while you are inside the country. Once it expires, it becomes invalid — and you must leave Vietnam before the expiry date.

What are your legal options?

1. No Direct Extension
There is currently no way to extend an existing E-visa or add extra days.

2. Visa Run (Most Common Solution)

  • Apply for a new E-visa (processing time: 3–5 working days)
  • Exit Vietnam and re-enter using the new visa

3. 90-Day Validity
E-visas are now available for up to 90 days, but still cannot be extended.

4. Status Conversion (Special Cases Only)
If you have a sponsoring organization in Vietnam (work, investment, or family), you may be eligible to convert your visa status without leaving the country.
This could lead to:

  • Work Visa
  • Business Visa
  • Temporary Residence Card (TRC)

Important Notes

  • Overstaying even 1 day can result in fines and affect future entry
  • Always apply through the official portal: evisa.gov.vn
